Aluminium cans: Italy is virtuous; 9 out of 10 are recycled
According to CIAL, the National Consortium for Aluminium Packaging, which has been promoting the collection, recycling and recovery of aluminium packs for years, 90.4% of aluminium cans are recycled in our country.
A material with many qualities – robust, ductile, resistant, malleable and durable – aluminium is also infinitely recyclable, keeping its structural properties unchanged over time. This is why, in Italy and in the world, the aluminium can is historically the most recycled beverage container.
Not just cans, though. Italy is also on the podium in the recycling of other product packs packaged in aluminium: from cans to caps, from trays, thin sheets, from tubes to tins, the total recycling of packs made with this material is, at a national level, around at 70%.
This has translated, in the last 3 years, into 151,700 tons of recycled packaging, for savings, in terms of emissions, of more than 1 million tons of CO2.
The Italian aluminium industry therefore boasts an efficient management system, characterized by a production based 100% on recycling: a high-performance model, consistent with the principles of the circular economy.
